Transition management
The transition period from non-milking, through calving, to milking is stressful for the animals. This stress affects their immunity and fertility, which may lead to a costly premature exit.
The early removal rate indicates the proportion of animals that non-voluntarily or voluntarily exit the herd in their first two months after calving. It is calculated as a rate of culled animals and the number of calvings for a selected date range.
The Transition Management page displays the monthly rate of animals that non-voluntarily or voluntarily exit your herd after 0-30 and 31-60 days in milk (DIM) in relation to the monthly number of calvings in the herd. With the early removal rate at hand, you can anticipate an economic loss and estimate its effects.
The Transition Management page visualises the early removal rate as the following:
The removal rate by 60 days in milk in a trend graph
The monthly removal rate by 0-30 and 31-60 days in milk in a bar graph
The details for the monthly accumulated culls and calving events as rows in a table, categorised after 0-30, 31-60 and 0-60 days in milk
To further help you categorise the removal rate for your animals, the Turnover Rate page lets you filter on Lactation.
